Any advantage to an alloy cone?
Looking for a new midbass set and i came across this eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
Is there any advantage to alloy cones? I know eclipse did alot of models both midbass and subs with alloy cones and ive seen alot of other brands with alloy models. Any advantage or does it just look cool lol
Re: Any advantage to an alloy cone?
if u just broke the mid then why not just get new mids? ive always wanted to try the seleniums that everyone has or hit up madisound and find something in the price rage of what i want. would probably sound better than buying a $50 set of new speakers.
Re: Any advantage to an alloy cone?
Different cone composition and shapes lead to a different sound and different behavior close to the limits of the driver. It's subjective, just like choosing a silk dome tweeter when metal dome tweeters are available.

Re: Any advantage to an alloy cone?
ok, good to know. THanks guys
Re: Any advantage to an alloy cone?
It can be just for show also. ;) There are trade offs with different cones. In general very stiff cones have a harsh break up that needs to be taken care of in the crossover. softer cones (paper and Poly) don't have that issue but suffer from lack of detail. On paper hard cones often look better, but paper can sound more natural. I think that it really comes down to personal preference. Of course this all goes out the window if the marketing department decided that metal cones look better.

Because im not really finding anything that fits the bill, and im kinda worried about mixing and match mids w/ passive crossovers w/ tweeters.
But AQs 6.5 comp set is 100
and IAs comp set is 120
Just mad cuz now it will be forever till i get a new HU, wish someone just had a decent set of mids used for 50bucks lol
Re: Any advantage to an alloy cone?
I would not recommend these speakers. Bought a pair off amazon, new, and when they arrived, the one didnt have the tinsel lead soldered on. so i sent them back and when i got a new pair, both tinsel leads weren't connected

lol well did you atleaste solder them up the 2nd time and see how they sounded lol, but thanks for the heads up
Im kind of leaning towards AQ comp set of IA. Just dont want to spend that much $ lol
I found a temp speaker for my door, removed the tweeter from a fosgate 2 way lol

Wow ant that some ****, well now since i noticed my T2 tweets have a resistance of 3.1ohms, ima run the lanzar opti mids i think. Can get some local, they look pretty brutal Lanzar OPTI6PM 6-1/2" (6.5") Optidrive Mid-Bass Driver
On a Hertz crossover lol or you think i should just replace the entire set?
Re: Any advantage to an alloy cone?
Save your money and get a matched nice set, meaning all the same brand, plus better quality too.
