Icon10 First timer looking for advice

Alright, I recently bought 2 15" kicker comps from a friend and they work great. Only thing is the amp that I got from him seems like they don't power the subs to their full potential (MRP M500). They are the 4 ohm comps wired down to 2 ohms. I found this amp online, it seems powerful and it's cheap as well, Power Acoustik CPT1-2200D. I wanted to ask if this amp would be too powerful for the subs if they are wired down to 2 ohm or would it even matter? I also have another concern. I feel like too many of the bass notes are being passed through to my door speakers and not to my subs. Would this be something I'd have to change on my amp in order to have my subs play more of the bass notes that I don't want played on my door speakers?

Thanks for any advice. I appreciate it all!

I'm not familiar with the Power Acoustik but I believe they are poorly regarded. The best budget amps right now are probably the Hifonics BRZ line or the Audiopipe's. Those amps do rated power. Or try to find a Cadence amp for a good deal.

To keep the bass from playing through your speakers find a HU that has High and Low pass filters.

Power Acoustic is a cheap brand, I would not run them. Like the second poster said, you'd be better off looking for a hifonics or audiopipe amp. Those are both budget amps but will be much better than PA.

Re: First timer looking for advice

    1. i would stay away. the brand Power acoustik is not known for quality.
As for your current amp, its only passing roughly 250 watts rms to each sub at 2 ohms. The subs you have can probably hand about 600.
I reccomend a Kicker zx 1200.1 for the best results with them. although i am not a fan of mainstream brands, one of my first amps was the kicker 750.1 zx and i was truely a good amp.
    2. The problem your having is not having a crossover to the speakers, or any sort of filter. going into your headunit and decreases the bass EQ or Loudness setting, etc, will take the bass away from your speakers, but a small bit from your sub. adjust the gain control and you should be fine for now.

just please don't purchase a Pyle, Legacy, or Power Acoustic amplifier....they really don't deserve to be in business.

I'm assuming you mean KX1200.1? In which case, would still be an unfit match for this application. He's not going to use but half of that amp with those subs. Just look for something reputable that claims ~600W RMS @ 2-Ohms. I'll take Audio Pipe over Hifonics given the choice based on my luck with Hifonics Amps. They're still a great budget amp though.
