    A speakers impedance

I looked all over google for this answer and can't find it.

What determines a speakers ohms? is it the voice coil, the magnet, or both? does the thickness of the voice coil or how long the coil is or how big the magnet is have anything to do with it?

The voice coil. It's a combination of DC resistance (length and gage of the wire) plus inductive reactance (AC "resistance"). Typically about 80% of it is just the wire itself.

    Re: A speakers impedance

motor/magnet plays a large role in the BL of the sub, voice coil thickness affects its power handling and the type of wire used to wrap the coil determines it's impedance

what would the types of coils be? different metals?

    Re: A speakers impedance

DC Resistance is totally dependent on the gauge, length, and material of the coil.

Actual impedence at a given frequency and amplitude is a function of that, motor force (back EMF), inductance, mechanical compliance, the enclosure, the room/car, and thermal and mechanical compression at high power.

you most commonly see copper and aluminum coils, where aluminum coils are more seen in high power SPL builds.
