Replace Powerbass 6.5 components or tune differently?

I have four 6.5" Powerbass midwoofers, one per door panel, and four complementary tweeters in each door panel as well. I've noticed that the sound is horrifically harsh. I can't play tune my head unit to anything but "speaker inside a bucket" without being bombarded with high tones.

    Head unit: Pioneer DEH-3100UB
Amplifier: Infinity 4-ch amp (unsure of model number), but it's 110W RMS per channel and 1000W peak across all four.
Speakers: Four 6.5" Powerbass components (door panels) and 2 6x9 Infinity Reference 3-ways (rear deck)

The way I have my head unit set up is no high pass filter, no bass, no loudness, etc.
    EQ 1 is at Lows +3, Mids + 2, Highs +2 or often +1.
    EQ 2 is set to Low 100Hz 02W, Mids 2KHz 01W, Highs 8KHz 01N

The amp has the bass boost knob turned up to about the middle, and the crossover is just before the middle on the low side.

I used to have woofers, but the amp and one sub (Diesel audio with dual Sony Xplod subs) went bad. I took them out recently and surprisingly don't notice a drastic difference except for the lack of a lot of growling noises.

How's the description? I can give more info, but please ask so I know what to describe.

The issue I'm having is that my speakers could sound fantastic. However, they shriek too much so that cymbals come out crystal-clear and in fact too piercing while mids are kind of muted. I really want to blame the speakers and buy something else, but I want to know first if there's something I can do to fix this. I know that if I want the sound system to sound worse, I can set the EQ 2 mids to 500Hz 01N and highs to 3KHz 01N, and then the piercing highs just vanish. However, it's like listening to an alarm clock's speaker. Also, I've gotten compliments from a couple music professionals (both aged well over the hill with their own home studios not used for rap music), but that was with mid loudness and different tuning. That was absolutely horrifying for me to listen to for long stretches of time, but I have to admit that all the highs, mids, and lows were perfectly reproduced and all were equally piercing.

I'm not sure about how much further I can get with typing even more, so please ask a lot of questions and help me explain more to you with less text. I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks!

Re: Replace Powerbass 6.5 components or tune differently?

Your EQ settings are kind of jacked up. The "speaker in a bucket" tone is caused by too much mid range, so you want to attenuate that a little, not boost it. Same thing with the highs, if they're too loud, you want to cut them back, not boost them. Also, the extreme shrillness of the highs is due to the fact that you are boosting a very specific set of high frequencies around 8Khz by having the Q factor set to 01N. If you use a wider Q factor, your adjustments will effect a wider number of bands around whatever frequency EQ 2 is set to, which should help make things blend better. I think if you try experimenting with a wider Q factor and toning down the mids and highs, you'll get the sound you desire.

Give something like this a try:

    EQ 1: Lows +2, Mids -1, Highs 0
    EQ 2: Low 80Hz 01W, Mids 500Hz 02W, Highs 8KHz 02W

What PB speakers are you using? Mine sound like *** as well and want something different. They sound airy.

^^ Local dealer has the clarus61-2 for $525 but will sell them for $425 (cash) if interested. Ur local dealer may also be able to give you a good deal. I did not ask about the other lines of hybrid but I would assume he would drop the prices for (cash) also.

Only have one here audioedge they only carry HAT and Diamond and when doing a side by side comparison every series that HAT has just walks the comparable model of the diamond. AND I MEAN WALKS THEM HARD. I use to think diamond was quality and they may be but if thats the case then HAT is "super quality"
