I haven't heard the kickers so I can't give you a good comparison but I have heard various JLs and I liked them very much.

If you hvae some local shops that carry them, you should go and listen to both and see what you like better.

I have Kicker Resolution components up front in my car. They are pretty good, the tweeters are so dam loud, give me the biggest headaches, I've tried to fix it with my equalizer and they are still rediculous. I'm probably going to switch to Boston Acoustics or MB Quarts....
It sounds like you have a price range, so for the money I think Infinity makes amazing speakers...

It depends,as everyone is different in their taste as far as how speakers sound.U should def try to listen to both sets but in my opinion id go with JL

I don't know about the cheaper comps, but the Kicker RS6 components have a tweeter gain attenuator. They sound awesome. I like the kickers, big surprise.

yeah def look at the higher end stuff from kicker and jl,as i wouldnt bother with the lower end comps...

I'd go with the JL comps. Out of the Kicker comps that I have heard, I wasn't impressed at all, with any aspect. The tweets are too strong for my tastes, and the midbass lack range. The JL's are much better in both areas, with the tweets being smooth, and the mid's having a broader range.

Listen to both. See which ones you like more. Actually, listen to as many brands as possible to make sure you don't miss out on something.

What is your budget ? This can help narrow it down.

A shop in town has the jl xr's right next to their diamond comps. They haven't sold the jl's in more then a year. When the diamond M6 is $100 less and the Jl's sound worse why would you by JL??? I'd rather have a Diamond M3 comp set then a JL XR comp set any day. JL comps are not good.

You may also compare a mid line CDT speaker to a $1000 Rainbow set

Gotta love personal preferences.
