changing passive x0vers, does changing center frequency make a difference?

I fried my crystal x-overs and im thinking of pickinig up some used ADS 336is xovers.

Only question i have is that the center frequencies for the ADS are different than the crystals...

    Crystal xover frequency is 4500hz

    the ADS is 2500hz..

    Does this make a difference?
If so, how would this sound?
    any audible difference?

that means that you would have a peak at a different (higher or lower? i don't know) frequency. depending on what type of music you like(rock/vocal vs. rap/techno), one could be better than the other depending on YOUR taste. try both with different types of music and you should see a difference.

    Hmm, interesting.

Well i chickened out and decided to have a replacement crossover built
    for 15 bucks.

Its got identical parts/specs/center freq of 4500Hz as the originals..

Only reason i wanted the same crossover is because ive heard that the crossovers in a component set are driver specific, and are meant to deliver the best sound for the particular components they were designed to compliment..

Maybe i'll play around with some different crossovers in the future.

    Thanks!

yeah, looking at your sig, i don't THINK that head unit has a lot of sound imaging options and like one set of preouts. not bashing it, just making an observation, i have the 4400 and it has some nice options and good sq. once again, making neutral observations.

    Word up Willll,

Yeah my HU is a true budget item. It works, has a built in 4 band EQ, and only one set of preouts, no frills but gets the job done.

Its ok. In the future i would like to get an mp3 player HU with 3 sets of 4V preouts then add a separate EQ.

My old sig started with the headline.... THE BUDGET SYSTEM

I truly have that, as im in school fulltime, work sporadically, and easily **** away whatever $ comes my way..

So in a year when im out of school maybe i can change my sig. to
the THREW SOME $$$ INTO IT SYSTEM

    Thanks again for you thoughts.
