4" Low Power (High efficiency) Speakers for Geo Metro

I have a 91 Geo metro with Eclipse 3200 CD player.
I tried using some 3.5" infinity speakers (say 25w RMS) from my friend but I can only hear the tweeter working and they sound like crap and not very loud off the HU power, so I went back to the stock 1991 paper speakers.

I want an upgrade but nothing too crazy...
Would these full range drivers work just powered by the head unit?

I do have an 75x2 @ 4ohms amp but I was going to power a small sub with it, if it will be necessary for the front I'll just forget about adding a woofer for now.


I'm not really fond of any 4" speakers but I don't think its worth doing a custom install into the doors of this vehicle. I have some old Kenwood excelon pink cones that would be shallow enough, but I figured the factory look would keep it simple.

Also it has 4x6's in the rear, should I disconnnect them or get some 4x6 to help out with volume and rear fill?

those ID speakers are great speakers to run off a deck i've used a set in 3 different vehicles now. i'd say since it's only 4's i'd go ahead and get you a set of 4x6s to fill out the vehicle.

Ok this sounds good since I like silk tweeters, anyone know where I can get a decent price on them I don't wanna spe nd too much money on a $1000 car $100 is already pusing the budget. Think I could get by with just one set? Amping one set would be cheaper than buying both fronts and 4x6's for the rear.

The RS100s are great drivers, the pair I have is gonna go head to head with my L3s for a spot in the car.

The only issue with the RS100s is that after about 6-7k hz unless they are directly on axis, you're going to lose quite a bit of output. Great speakers, but they're at home more in a 3-way setup as a dedicated midrange, or a low powered 2-way system, like bookshelf speakers.

I think in a vehicle, if all you're going to have running is 4s up front, you'll probably be better off with the IDs. Though whatever you end up choosing, I wouldn't expect any type of usable output below 160hz, a simple HP crossover is something I would look into.

I have another car, this is my commuter 40+ MPG on the freeway. But it only had an FM radio and paper surround speakers. I just wanted some tunes and bluetooth but want to hear music rather than distortion from the crappy speakers.

Anyways I guess I will just go with some ID's up front and then see if I want 4x6's in the rear too.

I believe my Eclipse HU already has a high pass crossover, I'll probably cut them off at 180htz or higher anyways. My amp definately has one as well if I decide to amp them.

The JBL's look pretty nice and might be good eough for the geo? I can get them fairly cheap like around $60 a set.

So now I'm thinking to go with Pioneer or Phoenix gold so I can replace all 4 speakers for cheap.

Open to other suggestions too. I don't really like harsh sounding tweeters like aluminmum or titanium. I want to keep the total for these + 4x6 version to under $100
