Here is My system & My problem

Currently I have a Kenwood x492 Head Unit 22x4w

Kenwood 1661s 6-1/2 Fronts 35w RMS

I tried putting in JBL GTO927 6x9 2 ohm 100w RMS

However after connecting the JBL's my HU switched to protect mode & until I disconnected the JBL's it would not reset.

I rechecked wires etc.... & nothing was wrong there.... I reconnect the JBL's & only one speaker would play (right) if I connected the Left the sound to ALL speakers stopped.

I even put the original HU in & the same speaker issues happened

I own a 05 Civic coupe.

A person at Crutchfield suggested the above set up for my car, saying I would get great sound....... so far I have jack crap of sound

*Even the kenwood fronts distort at MID volume.

I did try some pioneer rears 4 ohm & the only issue with them is that neither of my HU's have the wattage to push them... so they distort at mid volume & give no bass at all. ( I know an amp will help the Pioneers)

My problem is with the Kenwood HU, Kenwood Fronts & JBL rears....

any suggestions as to what might be wrong & what I can do to fix it...?

my guess would be the 2ohms. a HU only does 4ohms as far as i know. a 2ohm load is over working your HU and making it go into protect mode. you got the wrong speakers. sorry buddy.

hook those rear speakers in series and you'll present your built in amp with a 4ohm load, and you'll get sound...of course, you'll also lose stereo sound in the rear, you'll only get mono.

Get a 4chan amp and it will sound HELLA better.

why is he wrong? cd players amps are not like sub amps and what not, you do not mix and match ohms, bridge them..etc.. the amps inside of cd players are not meant to go below a 4ohm load, this puts way to much stress on their little boards and forces them to put out more power that they simply cannot and will not produce.. i would suggest taking them back and getting a 4ohm model or whatever you need to do. the problem is your mixing ohms.


its weird to me that your JBL's are 2ohms, "most" aftermarket car speakers are 4ohms..

Thanks to everyone for the info.... I assumed it was an ohm issue, but seeing how crutchfield said they would work fine...... I thought all would be good.
