Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

Hi there, I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My girlfriend left the right window open and it rained. I turned my car on today and now the speaker is making wierd noises, so I beleive it is shot.

I planned on buying some new speakers anyways so this is a good time I guess.

My question is, can I upgrade my speakers with something nice such as Kicker without having to get a seperate amp to power them?

I was looking at the kicker 6x9 such as these:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/PAIR-NEW-KICKER-...QQcmdZViewItem

I have a L7 kicker sub with a kicker zx750.1 amp and I don't want to have to put my amps and **** into my car unless I need them.

So can I upgrade my door speakers and maybe the front dash without hooking up a new amplifier?

Will the sound be a noticeable difference from what I have now?

Anything special I need to know about this?

    Thanks in advance =)

with those speakers being 180w rms i'd say you need an amp unless you have a ****** HU.

scratch that.... they're 90w rms. it could handle an amp, but i dont think it's necessary.

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

I will look what kinda HU I got, its a pioneer maybe 180w or 200w rms I think?

Anyways, will they sound good and better than my stock **** I got? Or is it a lost cause unless I get an amp?

My subwoofer is very loud and I could use just a little bit more clarity and sound.

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

Speakers will sound better if you change the HU
Speakers will sound a lot better if you change the HU and get an amp

to answer your question yes you can change the speakers without adding an amp. But it would kinda be like buying a Lamborghini and never driving over 50. Your speakers would be able to be so much more but you would be holding them back.

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

    Ahh decisions decisions...

I think for the time being I will get a pair of speakers just to fix my rain problem, until I can get some more money...

Are those kickers decent or should I go with something else?

Just figured I would stick with kicker since I got a nice kicker sub and amp. Represent lol.

    Thanks guys =)

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

if you plan to get an amp later, yeah. if you just want better speakers for HU power, you could find some to better suit that app.

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

yes you can upgrade your door speakers, and not need to have an amp., people do it all the time.

but with component set, its better to amp em, and get full potential

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

You will not be to happy unless you amp them... Unless your current speakers really blow, you won;t notice a huge difference without an amp. Also if your current speakers are ALL terrible I would suggest upgrading them all at once. Otherwise you will get distortion from some, and not other etc. it *****, trust me.

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

Get some Pioneer REV coaxials, they'll sound nice off a HU

Even a small amp tho will be better than HU power and make a difference!

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

So I get a SMALL amp, I just hook a seperate power wire up where the current 4gauge is for the sub? I think I may be draining too much power from my battery currently, will this hurt me even more?

Right now I don't have a ton of money to spend, and basically I was going to just fix the problem the rain caused and increase my sound quality a bit..

I have my HPF for my speakers on 125, is that normal? BAD/GOOD? I find that with my sub and current speakers, this is the best performance I get and can hear the music the most.

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

The HPF is set good, you could get a dist block and run 8 awg from it to the amp, a small say 100 watt amp isnt going to draw a whole lot of current, so i dont think it will affect a whole lot. The only new thing you will have to run is a new RCA, but you could also hook it up to the front output and split it off and have one half go to the sub amp.

Re: Can I upgrade my front door speakers without an AMP?

people upgrade speakers all the time without an amp........just look for a lower rated speaker like a powerbase or a pioneer in the 40 w RMS range - youll be golden
