infinity reference 6x9 VS Boston SX60

Hi there, I currently have some infinity reference 3 way 6x9 speakers in my front doors getting around 75rms each. Well I got a pair of Boston SX60 comps new in box and dont know if I should exchange them for the speakers.

whent to a local place to quote an install on the speakers and the installer mentioned that the new boston SX60 comps would sound exactly the same or a little worst on the midbass compared to how 6x9 infinity reference speakers sound.

Is this true? I really dont think so.

Should I try to sell the comps or install them?

in terms of midbass, the bostons only have about half the cone area of the 6x9's so obviously they won't have the midbass potential of a 6x9... however, i believe the bostons to be a better sounding speaker overall. there's more to music than just midbass.

I agree with thefunkybunch.

Since you have a sub, I would try the comps.

I'm sure you would appreciate the better clarity. If you find you want more midbass, sell the Boston's and buy 6X9 comps.

I forgot to mention that I will also apply sound deadening to the doors if I decide to do the exchange...

deadening should be done regardless of what speakers you use. it is a night and day difference, and don't skimp. the more the better

or get the boston SL95's and either delete the dash tweets, or cross them over at about 8khz and just use them as ambient tweeters to raise the soundstage (if it even needs it). honestly the sl's are probably the best sounding 6x9 i've heard to date, and one of only a few that actually sound good. put a set in the front doors of a contour on a 300/2, with no rear fill and it absolutely rocked
