Morel Supremo Vs Hertz Mlk 165

alright, here it goes. i think we have a new company out that's competing with higher priced sq components that are better over all. the msrp on the MLK 165's are $999 and the MOREL SUPREMO's are $ 2,199. i read two reviews by two different sound specialist in this months publication in car audio and electronics. the review by bob morrow for HERTZ really impressed me. out of a total score of 100 he gave the MLK's an 87. the SUPREMO's scored an 86 by casey thorson. my question is: why spend an extra $1000 for the SUPREMO's? bob morrow said" the bass drum, which comes in after the guitar interlude, gave the impression that there's a subwoofer in this system- it's very rare that a 6.5 component set with such a well-balanced, low frequency responce". im sure the SUPREMO's sound just a little bit better but i don think their worth the extra 1000 bucks. hertz needs to get out there and really promote here in america. i think their fairly priced and very attractive. hertz is the new mb quart.

    SUBJECTIVE SCORE CHART:

OVERAL SOUND: QUALITY- SUPREMO 19, MLK 165'S 18(20 POINTS POSSIBLE)
TONAL BALANCE: (ABOVE 80HZ) SUPREMO 9, MLK 165'S 8.5(10 POINTS POSSIBLE)
LOW FREQUENCY: EXTENSION SUPREMO 7, MLK 165'S 9.5(10 POINTS POSSIBLE)
CLARITY AT LOW VOLUME: SUPREMO 9.5, MLK 165'S 9.5(10 POINTS POSSIBLE)
CLARITY AT HIGH VOLUME: SUPREMO 9.5, MLK 165'S 9(10 POINTS POSSIBLE)
IMAGE STABILITY: SUPREMO 9, MLK 165'S 8.5(10 POINTS POSSIBLE)
LISTENING FATIGUE: (MODERATE VOLUME) SUPREMO 10, MLK 165'S 9(10 POINTS POSSIBLE)
FLEXIBILITY/ EASE OF INSTALLATION: SUPREMO 13, MLK'S 15(20 POINTS POSSIBLE

    Is this a serious post?

No component set for your car can be worth 999, let alone 2199. You must work for the Dept of Defense. I have a 500 dollar hammer to sell you.

Re: Morel Supremo Vs Hertz Mlk 165

Sound is subjective. And i'd take it with a grain of salt anytime car audio drivers are reviewed in cabinets, as opposed to the car environment.

In any event they are both great speakers, i just wouldnt weigh heavily into caraudio mag reviews. Caraudio is about application and install, first and foremost. A couple of subjective points in a review does not make one speaker better than another, or a better value.

I wouldnt invest too much in what you read in a magazine. Theres WAY too many politics being played and that will determine final scores. Furthermore the majority of tests are all judged the same way, whether intended to be or not. Look at the Germs score which was IN a sealed enclosure and on axis. NOT in any way shape or form an ideal comparison for a vehicle and Not the way Rainbow intended them to be used. Of course this is an easy way to fill in negative scores and be 'legit' about it again polotics.

Manny and Don, I think you guys are absolutely right. I have often wondered about listening tests in which the speakers are not used in a manner that they were intended/engineered to be used. I looked at the subjective score for the Germaniums and just kind of laughed....

Re: Morel Supremo Vs Hertz Mlk 165

As said above, Car Audio tests of component sets shouldnt be trusted, as they no longer test them in a car, they put them in boxes and listen on-axis, which is not comparable to a typical car install.

The better designed component sets are meant to be listened to off-axis, as thats how they end up when mounted in the doors.

Really good sets in real life wont get good scores when listened to on-axis (they will tend to be harsh) as Car Audio does when they test them in some guys garage sitting in boxes.

The fact that Rainbow actually uses vehicles of various sizes for their testing porcedures speaks volumes on their behalf. Theyre primary made for a car and off axis, testing completely defies that, thus leaving a less than desirable score.

I found their subjective scores quite humorous myself.

What"s sad is that is there mid level set that beat out the Supremos. I have just installed a complete Hertz Mille set up in my car. The MLK2 with the ML3000 Sub. They are just too sweet. Hertz is how you spell SQ. They are truly amazing.

Veit let me know when your install is complete. We will have to meet up and see what the differences will be. Since we have close to the same setup
