    3-way passive comp set?

I'm looking around for a 3-way passive set for my girlfriends new FJ Cruiser. I can fit 6.5's or up to 8's for the woofers, 4.5's or smaller for the mids and whatever tweets. Power will be via the front channels of a Phoenix Gold Onyx (Xenon) 200.4, plenty of power 200x4!! The rear channels will be used for the sub.

I'm not looking for anything audiophile here, just something nice to listen to on camping trips and the such. Any suggestions?? I tried to search, but there were waaaayyyyyy to many matches for 3 way.

I'm not looking to break the bank, but on the other hand I do realize that this will not be cheap. Throw up what you know, I'll filter out what I think is too expensive.

    Re: 3-way passive comp set?

JL makes a passive 3 way that isn't too bad in the price range. Audiobahn makes a 'budget' setup...

I'd say the JL is going to be midrange, audiobahn for lowwwwwwww end of the totem pole, and the high enders are well... high end.

I'll look into the JL's, but I think the Audiobahn's are out for me. Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!!

Go with a 2-way. Much better quality for your money and usually much better in passive systems.

The FJ Cruiser is allready set up for a 3 way. Well, I have to fab up some sort of mounting bracket for the tweets, but that's no big deal at all. It has a spot for an 8" and a 4 1/2 allready, so I would rather use the space and just get a 3 way right off the bat.

You don't have to fill every speaker opening. If going passive, you'd get better sound by going 2-way. Many times, less is more.

This is true, but with the way the FJ Cruiser is set up I really think that a 3-way front is the way to go. In my little car I'm running an active 2-way set up with no rear fill and it is PLENTY. In fact I'm using 8 ohm drivers and it gets crazy loud. But with the FJ, considering where the speakers are and the weird shape of the dash and windshield I really want to use a 3-way.

    Re: 3-way passive comp set?

If you insist on running 3-way, go semi active. Get a solid 4" comp set and then add a midbass on its own amp. Actively bandpass the midbass.

Your thinking is wrong. My buddy tried that in his FJ and a 2way is a better choice, especially if you are a bit new to tuning.
