    Focal or Dynaudio?

I'm looking into the Focal 165K2P and the Dynaudio 240GT. Looking for good SQ comps. The amp is a JL Audio 300/4. 75rms per channel. Which comps would be the best choice? Right now I got a set of Boston Pro60's, nothing wrong with them, just wanting to change to something that sounds better.

    Opinions?

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

I would avoid the 240gt and try to get the regular 240 set. The 240gt comes with a 6.5" driver. The regular set comes with a 7" driver. 7" driver is more effortless.

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

I'm not good at making custom stuff, so going with 7" would be a waste, since I won't be able to install them correctly.

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

165K2p's are Harsh for many people. . . . I think between the two sets you mentioned the dyn's would be better. . .

    the dyn's are more mellow/natural.

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

I don't know why everyone seems to think the Focals are harsh. I think you just have to have them adjusted right as I find mine very mellow. They like lots of power though, at least 100W RMS.

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

I think both those line are generally known for different characterisics. Focal known to be more "in your face" and the Dynaudio to be more "neutral and realistic"

I would go Dynaudio.....or maybe something in the Rainbow lineup?

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

Personally I would choose the Dyns hands down. The important question should be ...what do You like? What type of music do you listen to?

I as most people will agree that Focals are bright. You Possibly tune em down a bit to run a little 'smoother', but why spend all that money to process something? A good component set sound sound good out of the box with little or no tuning needed.

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

I have had 2 focal sets in my days, The access line and now the polyglass. I will agree that the focals do tend to be a bit harsh, or "in your face." but I'm kind of used to bright speakers. My home audio is klipsch and well, that should speak for itself. I've never listened to dyn speakers but I've read amazing things about them so who knows....I think it comes down to personal preference honestly.

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

I listen to mainly rock and rap, and some times classical when I'm in the mood. (Love the sound of violin and piano)

Just want something that basically sounds good, not too harsh. I love my Boston pros, just want something else now. I need to try other brands and see what all kind of stuff is out there. Try new things, you know?

Also, my subs are 2 12" CVR's, which I'm in the process of getting a single 12" Mag (Or single 15"), so I'd like everything to blend in nicely. I was also looking into 2 12" Image Dynamics and Sound Splinter RLP 15". (But my heart is pretty much set on the Mag)

    Re: Focal or Dynaudio?

I had a chance to put Pro60's in my car and listen to them for a couple months, then put the Focal 165K2P for a couple months. Both receiving around 125 RMS, no equalizing or sound processing. Focals are definitely in your face and very harsh compared to the Pro60's.

No comments on the Dynaudio. No $ to comment on them.

I listened to both of them side by side and thought just the opposite
