I'm assuming that you mean 5.1 surround sound, which involves a center channel. So you'll need 4 satellite speakers ( fronts and rear), a center speaker, and a sub(s).
I'm not sure how it can be done w/o a processing unit, like the alpine h701.
I have an amp capable of running a 5.1 setup if you're interested. it has 6 channels (4ch+center+sub)
yeah i think you mean 5.1 cause that little 1 means that theres one sub
yeah 5.1 sorry about the new threat new at this

im trying to learn more about this if it would be better a 5.1 surrond or a regular sound system all that matters is that it is loud and clear mostly will play music about 30% other 70% movies including music videos. everyone starts somewhere.

thanks for the info what setup would you recommend ngsm13?

Well, if you like Kicker... the Kicker SS components are quite loud and, and very clear.
Do a set of components up front, bi-amped. Some rear fill. Then some properly powered subwoofers.

JVC has a head unit with circle surround, as does Panasonic. That will probably be the easiest and most cost effective route to go.
You need 4 speakers... that will give you a phantom center... and you need a sub.
5 - channels of amplification.
Ideally, front speakers should be installed in kick panels for a better phantom image and better front sound stage.
Ideally, rear speakers should be identical to the fronts (you would not purposely buy a different front right and front left speaker, so why should rears be different?). But second best would be different size speakers, if you need to, from the same line. Third best would be just mids in the back that play at least to around 5,000 hz. Tweeters are not absolutely necessary, Dolby rear channels roll off at 7K anyway.
Kicker SS components would be the best choice.
