Speaker Help!! FAST!!

Ok well I in a 2002 silverado ext cab and I am going to put aftermarket front stage speaks in and leave the back ones stock since the subs are back there and you wont be able to hear them. I was wondering how do i block the back factory speakers from bass....I think the aftermarket front ones will be ok but i am worried about blowing the rear ones... Can i fix this with bass blockers or will my JVC El Kamelion take car of the bass blockedge?? THANKS

You have 2 12" subs in a pickup cab, so I wouldn't worry about the rear fill.

Disconnect those rears and focus on an amplified front stage. And if ya don't like it, you can always reconnect the rears.

how do you block the bass from getting to them,... i want to turn the volume up and not blow the speakers b/c of the bass.

Man those are expensive, just go to radio shack or an electronics parts store and ask for a non-electrolytic capacitor, somthing areound 100mfd should do the trick. should cost around a buck each

Will this work for factory speakers?? Also How do you install it?
I also want to run the front stage speaks off of the HU and not an amp so that clarifes other posts..

Yes, they will work for factory speakers. You just attach it inline between the positive wire and the positive speaker terminal.

Are you able to individually adjust the EQ settings for the speakers and subs with your HU? If so, why not just turn the bass down for the speakers and raise the sub level a bit?

That depends. Are you experiencing any distortion from both the rears and fronts at moderate to higher volume settings?

At high volume i cant even here the speakers because of the bass but it does distort at high without the subs but with the factory bass...

Your subs are drowning out everything else. Is that the goal you wanted (very high subbass SQL/SPL)?

If not, then your HU and speakers are not providing enough SQL/SPL to keep up with your subs. You'll need to find balance in your current setup if you are not planning to run a really decent set of front speakers and an amp to close the gap. This will involve lots of tuning and tinkering.

1. A likely place to start is to turn the sub gain down so that your sub stage will not continue to overpower the rest of your system.
2. Find a volume setting on your HU (flatten all the EQ first) that doesn't provide distortion. This will be your maximum capable clean listening volume.
3. Now slowly work the sub gain up until you reach a nice balance between subbass sounds and everything above that.

Remember, a well tuned/balanced and imaged system can only get as loud and clear as the weakest component will permit. Because your HU and speakers are relatively weak (by the sound of your descriptions) in comparison to your sub stage, the subbass is murdering everything, and that's not something bass blockers will fix.


Let me try to paint a visual by what I mean here:

SPEAKERS
powered off HU (20wpc rms?) can only get to 30/50 volume before they distort.
...not much SQL/SPL

SUBS
clean install and powered by a capable amp. Gain is set to provide max unclipped signal.
...loads of SQL/SPL, even at 30/50 HU volume.

RESULTS
high powered sub output is eating low powered speaker output for breakfast.

Wow that was an awsome explanation I REALLY appriceate it....now i will consider getting an amp to power the front stage speaks and try and find out how to wire it all together THANKS ALOT!!!!
