In need of some new 6x9's

After being put through the mill for going on 7 mos. only to come up empty on getting a working Focal 6x9 I am ready to yank them and go back in with something else. The price doesn't matter at all (I paid over $350 for the **** Focals). I do want something that will handle 250W and has real good sound for a 2-way. Most importantly though I want it to be from someone that has a good turn-around and rep for returns/repairs. How about the Alpines? I would hands down go with CDT's since my experiences with them has been just great but they don't make a high end 6x9. Anyone have some pieces to look at?

I'd say out of those the REVs would be the best....not too much bass but extremely clear.

If the speakers are going in the back of the car, then get the JL VR's. Thats what I have and it sounds incredible. I send them a full signal with no crossover and they take it like a champ and play loud. I have not heard the Bostons or the CDT's but the JL VR plays alot better than the Polks, Pioneers, and Aplines. The VR's have a very small and somewhat toned down tweeter than you can only hear when you are sitting in the back of the car. This is nice because, treble from the rear of the vehicle is only going to throw off your sound imaging. On the other hand, the bass thumps really clean and will blend perfectly with the speakers up front, while providing a perfect roll off from your subwoofers.

I have the JL's and I have a set of Memphis 15-MC92 6X9's.They are both very good for 6X9's.The Memphis's are cleaner and have a better tweeter in my opinion and they are cheaper.I like the carbon fiber woofer on them-good bass and really clean sound.I was running an Ifinity amp bridged at like 260 watts a side to the Memphis 6X9's and didn't hurt them in a year of playing them hard.I think you can get them for about $140.00.If you want to get crazy go to Critical Mass website and check out the neo magnet 6X9's-I think about $400.00.I would buy the Memphis or JL's before any of the others you listed.

How about the Memphis units? Where can you get them and do you have a part number?

I want to try something different! Those seem to be it. Wonder which one is better in the customer service/returns department?

Shame they don't make them like these old school Cerwin Vega CS-18a's with 6lb magnets and a resetable horn tweeter. The woofer frame is cast aluminum and the woofer surrounds are pleated and coated material so they won't rot.

They are top mount only since the tweeter is integrated into the perforated steel grill. They will outperform just about all other 6x9's made these days. I have a couple of used pairs sitting around. I am using a 23 year old pair of Magnum Professional component 6x9's in the rear deck of my Honda. Stellar mid-bass!

The JBL T595's are an option but they are top mount also so applications are limited.

Here is a photo of the Magnum's. The woofer is huge and the MF/HF modules attach to a pair of terminals on the woofer. They are very, very rare.

Tang Band has an interesting piece too but I believe you have to massage a bunch to get it to fit. I want a drop-in install... You wait 1/2 year and you get antsy to just put something in!

Woofers Etc. has both speakers. They have the Memphis #15-MC92 6X9 that I have for $109.00.They also have the #15-MC69 6X9 that is the same except it has a Kevlar cone for $119.00.Either one would be great.They also have the JL Audio VR690CXi 6X9 for $169.99.These are very good but I like the Memphis a little more.Any of these are very good 6X9's-especially for the price.Hope this helps.

I just did some more reading on the Kappas and they have adjustable tweets:

Adjustable tweeter level-Each Kappa multielement features a user adjustable tweeter level control. On the two-way models, simply rotate the tweeter to add or subtract 3dB output. On the three-way models, it is the simple push of a button right on the tweeter faceplate.
