JL components keeping up w/ 2 subs?

friend of mine is setting up 2 jl 10w6v2's in built to spec sealed enclosures and powering each with its own 500/1.

are xr650-csi's run by a 300/2 going to keep up with the trunk? How much can the XR's actually handle? He says that they can handle the 150w rms from the 300/2 but i think he's full of it I mean... if you dont turn the gain down at least...

He should get a 1000/1 instead of 2 500/1. and those 650 Csi handle 70 RMS.

hey, this is neothin's friend. I'm trying to set my trunk up with the amplifers sitting nearly veritcal closest to the people looking at the trunk with the 300/2 in teh middle and the 500/1's to teh sides of it and then have the 2 subwoofers behind them. Is there any particular reason to get the 1000/1 vs the 2 500/1's? I know getting the 2 amps will be a bit more money wise due to the amplifier cost and additional wiring, but imo it would look better. Is there any reason other than cost?

You'll have a fun time setting the gains exactly the same on 2 amps. The XR components in my opinion **** REALLY bad, but its your choice. Lack of midbass is my main gripe with them.

Matching the gains is pretty easy with a good DMM. As long as the subs are in separate emclosures the matchig doesn't have to be exact anyway. Running the 2 500/1s at 3 ohms each will be more efficient than trying to run the 1000/1 @ 1.5 as well.

As far as the front stage keeping up with the subs, as long as you have a sub level control, it's pretty easy to just turn the subs down for normal music where you care about the front stage and turning them back up when you want to get loud. A front stage that will genuinely keep up with a powerful sub stage is going to seriously damage your hearing at any kind of high volume anyway. I wouldn't concern myself with it too much.

I have 2 1000/1s for sale if he wants to siwtch over. Anyways I would imagine the XR should keep up.

if the xr's are blah speakers, is there another JL component that would be better? He's trying to stay all JL due to a deal he's getting cut.....
