    Daytons?

    I'm looking for "suggestions" ...

I'm doing two mids per door and going with Dayton Reference series from Parts Express... was wondering if I should do 6", 7" or 8" mids? I can probably fit any size comfortable in my door panel with pods, does it really matter?

Also, it would be a four channel and two channel amp to run four mids and two tweeters? Or should I just run four sets of tweeters up front?

Which Dayton tweeter should I go with @ Parts Express? Also, should I go with the "shielded woofer" or just the "woofer"?

    </noob questions> thanks.

    Re: Daytons?

The size of your mid and its frequency range along with the tweeter detemines what size to use. If you went with the 8in, I would say to get the 2" midrange, and the rs dayton tweeter making it a 3-way fronstage. If you got the 6in or 7in, i think the rs dayton tweeter would be able to match well. The 7in is gonna give you more midbass. Keep in mind im refering to all the of Dayton Reference Line, but there are many more brands and drivers to look at. The shield woofer is really only used for home use.

    Re: Daytons?

    Thank you, I appreciate it.

Now, using my P880PRS as the crossover, I can't do a three way without a processor, correct?

If so, what's my cheapest route?

    Re: Daytons?

Well the cheapest route would be doing the Dayton 7in and the rs tweet. If you have experience tuning, the 8in, 2in, and tweet would be nice ran off your 880 and then have your sub ran off the crossovers of your amp. Note that 3-ways are definately more difficult to tune right compared to a 2-way unless your experienced. I have heard great things from both combos, if it was me personally I would do the 2-way for ease of use.

    Re: Daytons?

My whole reason for doing a three way setup is for something louder... I'm going to be into the 150s with my sub setup... and I would like to hear a little bit of music if at all possible from my front stage.

    Re: Daytons?

A Dayton RS 7" woofer and Dayton RS tweeter shouldn't have a problem keeping up with your substage.

That tweeter is no joke, it'll get loud.

Remember that it is a large format tweeter, so it may take a bit of fabrication to get it where you want.

    Re: Daytons?

I understand, you might then want to do the 3-way frontstage then because the 8in would give you great midbass, 2in would give you a more defined midrange, and the tweeter would give you your highs. I believe its better for each diver to play certain frequencies that its designed for, especially at high volumes where you might start pushing the drivers.

    Re: Daytons?

I would try a 8in with a 4in and then a 1in tweeter. I dont like a 8in speaker playing much above 300hz and ith a 2in tweet you'll have to have the 8in play higher than 300hz to blend correctly. I would say get 8in Dayton Ref, 4in CDT HD-4, and the Dayton 4ohm tweeter. Also you could run this completely active or do the 4in and the tweeter on a passive and the 8in active, thus requiring only 1 4ch amp. My .02$

    Re: Daytons?

My buddy said I could get two 2-channel Sundowns to run four mids and four tweeters... He said the four mids could be ran off of one 2-channel amp @ 2 ohms.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks,
    Kenny

Are you doing front and rear, or all front? Active, passive, or combination?

Front, 2 speakers per door, one tweeter on each door panel and one on each side of the dash/a-pillar... active

    Re: Daytons?

    you don't need 4 tweeters

i'd go with two 6.5" midwoofers and the one 1 1/8" dome tweeters per door

    that would be sick

best a cheapest route for a two-way up front

My options with the Dayton Refs are 6, 7 or 8" mids. And wouldn't two speakers and a tweeter per side = 6 speakers total = 3 way?

    Re: Daytons?

If your going with the Dayton Reference, you HAVE to get a tweet that'll drop to a 1.8k~2kHz crossover point. I'm rather fond of my Morel MDT-29's for that job.
