    SLC 265's Active?

I'm currently running the slc 265's with 100w rms each (amp is bridged, otherwise it puts out 40w rms x 4). I'm not sure how much power is being sent to each component, but I'm sure there's some way to tell. However, I'm considering going with an alpine h701 processor and doing an active front stage. For this I would likely get a new amp to push the setup. I'm not sure what power I should be looking for. I was thinking about doing 100x4 rms, but I'm weary of that since it may be too much power. I don't have an amp picked out yet, since I don't plan on going this route for a few more months. Initially I'll run the front stage passive as it is now, until I'm able to step up to a new, more reliable amp. I'm going to keep the rear fill for 5.1 later, which is powered by the h/u, btw.

Cliffs: want to run active front stage on slc 265's. What 4-channel wattage should I be looking into?

They are rated at 150rms, what makes you think 100 would be too much?

50x4 would be plenty to run it active.

Actually, they're rated at 100w rms. The 150 is max rating. I was under the impression that since they're ran passive right now, the amplfier isn't truly giving each component 100watts. I've read that a passive crossover can sometimes use up an amp's energy to do its job. I'd really like to do over 50x4. I was hoping someone here could give some feedback. I wouldn't want to void warranty. I'd really, really like to bump it up to the highest I can achieve, while not pushing the speakers to their limits.

like i said any decent 50x4 will be plenty, but if you want to do 100x4 go ahead.

I was hoping he'd see this and post back. I bought my slcs from him.

    Re: SLC 265's Active?

65-100 per side will suffice passively. Actively..as posted above 50X4 will do the job and quite nicely.

    Re: SLC 265's Active?

I say for future flexibility dont cut yourself short unless the 4ch becomes a tweeter/midrange amp with 50 per side. If you are in budget for a good powered 4ch amp def lean towards the 75-100 per ch. You want the headroom, and you want ample volume before clipping.

Many people have not taken the SLC's actively. Me thinks you'd be surprised how sweet these speakers can actually sound tuned well actively.

    Re: SLC 265's Active?

The SLCs sweeten up a good amount by going active. We have played with 50, 75, and 125 active, and yes 50 is normally plenty when going active, but 75 did sound a little cleaner and more detailed.
