    Replacement mids/comps

You see what I have in my sig... I'm eventually going to get Boston Z6s and have doorpods made, but I don't have anywhere near that kinda money right now...

...so since I blew my mids, I'm looking to get a relatively cheap, or maybe even something better then cheap to throw in the doors (5-1/4) right now. I have two Diamond D5 600.2's to use for the highs and mids... I can keep the ****** highs and get new mids or what do you suggest?

Using what a crossover...the Xenon passive?

If so, what impedance were the Xenon mids and what is the xover frequency and slope of the passive?

    Re: Replacement mids/comps

Yeah using the Xenon crossover. To be honest with you, I'm still confused when it comes down to the specs of things, and I can't really get ohms down either. My original system was put in by my dad, I didn't have to do much thinking.

I'm learning still, and now I'm screwed because I have a competition on Sunday, and it's also a car show. People at the last show were in and out of my car all day before I got metered, and if all I have are some cheapy RF highs and LOUD *** BASS, then it's still going to sound ******.

Also, the mids need to be able to get decently loud, as I'm pretty sure I'm in the mid to high 140's with this setup...

Without knowing the questions to the answers I posed....then it's going to be a crap shoot as to whether or not the new mids will actually sound "good".

We could assume that Xenon mids were 4ohm, so we can assume you need to replace it with another 4ohm mid. But without knowing the xover frequency and slope, it's going to be hard to recommend something that will perform even close to optimally off of that passive network.

****, and it's nearly impossible to access the crossover without a ton of work... and it's upside down and I can't read any of the switches.

    Any easy way to tell?

    Re: Replacement mids/comps

Problem getting to the crossover, going to need a drill that fits in to tight places to get to it. If I can't find anything on the net then I'll see what I can do.

The crossover is the one that comes with the Phoenix Gold X5 Xenon component system... can anyone find any useful information?

I have to act fast.... looking to get something by Saturday...

    Think I found it..

24dB/octave, 70-22,000hz, 4 ohm... is that what you were looking for?

Now find me some component speakers!

    please

okay you found the impedance but the frequency response doesn't tell us where the mids/tweets are crossed at. remember that most passive crossovers (the crossovers that comes with a component set) has a set high pass filter for the tweeters and a set lowpass filter for the mids. you need to find that crossover point. 70-22000hz only tells the frequency response for the whole component set.

    Re: Replacement mids/comps

You won't damage anything, if that's what you want to be "okay".

It's simply a matter of the xover point and slope not resulting in optimally performance for the new mid.

If you are really that anxious, you can buy them and try them out. They might sound great, they might not.

As for the information I requested....best bet to try either the Xenon comp set manual or try contacting PG
