im looking to upgrade my components, ive been running some rockford power 5 1/4 off my punch 150 for a few mos. using the passive xover.

but i hear alot of better sounding cars with crisp highs like shimmer even at low volumes, is that active or just some nice *** tweeters?

ordering some tweeters this saturday, what do you all think of theses, has anyone run them before?

It's not necessarily active setups that give you that, more likely the quality of the tweeter and how good it's off-axis response is.... or how well they are aimed.

The tweeters you have there aren't bad, but I'm not so sure you'd want a driver designed for a guitar amp in a car.

The ribbons may be difficult for you to set up properly. Typically ribbons suffer from having poor vertical dispersion, so they are going to take a little more work to set up properly.

I'm not familiar with that particular Morel tweeter, but given it has some "horn loading" it will likely also be more directional than a standard tweeter, again making the setup a little harder to get right.

And I agree with Beat....not so sure your mid is a suitable choice, especially considering you are trying to mate it with a tweeter.....a 10" is going to have some serious beaming issues......About the only way you can get away with using a 10" mid in a 2-way setup is with HLCD's.


And also as Beat said....what you are describing isn't because they are active, more because of the quality of the tweeter and the quality of the installation and tuning (equalization).
