They could never function properly for high end car audio considering the heat and power that most woofers are expected to handle. It might be a viable option for low power handling applications but definately not spl. But I could be wrong.

There are a few issues with a wood driver, the most significant is weight of the cone. Vifa also makes a wood-based driver that Dali uses in their mid-range home speakers.

they use 1/100" thick wood with laminate, so i think that would help on weight issues, and as far as spl they're not meant for spl, the idea is SQ
