No sound from tweeter

I'm installing some Elevation Audio Concert comps. All the polarity is correct, they are being powered by a JL 300/4. My problem is that my tweeter has no sound. Also, for some reason, it seems as if the midrange is playing almost a full range (dont see how, but thats what it seems like). Anyways, what could this be? The polarity on the tweeters is good. I have a HPF set on the amp at like 75-95hz. No other filters are on.

any ideas?

Well, if the mid is seriously playing full range, then it sounds like you have the mid wired to the tweeter output on the crossover, and the tweeter wired to the mid output on the crossover. This would also explain why the tweeter has no sound......it's trying to play frequencies too low for it to adequately reproduce them.


Go back to the xovers and double check you have them wired correctly.

PS: Having a reversed polarity wouldn't cause them to have no sound...FYI. They would still play and sound "normal". Reversing the polarity is actually a good thing, sometimes.

Interesting...so reversing the polarity doesn't damage them at all? It always seems like that's the first thing people say to check, so that's why I said that.

Thanks for the response, I found out that Elevation's manual had something backwards...and the pin for bi-amping is actually the pin for single, so I had it on bi-amp, and that's what was wrong. Thanks again.

Nope. It's actually a very commonly done thing in most sound quality cars. Reversing the polarity of one of the mids or one of the tweeters can fix some phasing issues.

No damage what-so-ever caused by it.
