    Running more than maximum wattage

Is it safe, even when it's common for people to do so? Take the '04 Alpine Type-R sub: people regularly recommend going 100-200w above the stated maximum (300w to 400\500w) because it's known the sub can handle it. But how about for other speakers?

I just picked up some Diamond Audio m361i's which are rated at 50w rms max, but through using the amp setting tutorial, I have them set at around 100w (19-20v using a 1khz test tone depending on the speaker, why do they read differently, anyway?). When normal music is playing, it rarely goes above 10v.

They sound MUCH better at 100w; at 50w the cone doesn't move all that much and it's fairly quiet in my opinion. At 100w, there's no clipping (amps rated at 175w), and the cones don't fart even using a 80hz test tone, so I'm wondering if it's okay to run it there. Besides just going by ear, what are some other things that could be ruined from running them twice their rated spec?

Do they get warm after extended play?

You'd have to define extended play, but even then, they are in the doors Hard to tell when they are mounted. You are talking about the voice coil or magnet, correct?
