5.25"s to keep up with Tumult...

I need an idea for some compontent 5 1/4"s that will be powered by an ed nine.2. I want something under $300. Im going to have an adire audio tumult in the back running off of a jbl bp1200 in 3 ft. tuned to 33. I know that the sub will be plenty loud, but what components will be able to keep up well? I was looking at the Diamond hex with silk tweet, but i understand that they would probably like a little power. If anyone has some ideas, i would appreciate it. Thanks alot.

You're going to need to do some serious install work to get midbass out of a 5.25" that can keep up with a Tumult. Not saying it can't be done; but it'll take one hell of an install.

Why are you only using 5.25" comps, when you have one of the highest linear displacement subwoofers on the market?

Yeah no chit. XXX comps may work well if they are do-able in the install.

Back in the 'bigger were better' days (6 months ago ) i purchased one of those. Have yet to sell it, although it does satisfy mosty of my needs. 5 1/4"s come stock in my jeep, and im not sure if i want to hack the doors yet or not, so if i can find a decent set of them i will use them. get some high end CDT speakers that will handle 200w rms - yes they're out there. Give 'em 210 and I bet they'll keep up

yes there is but i dont think it will come at the price he wants. avi has some stout mid basses that if nothing else would be just a notch under the xxx but still being only 5.25. i know they can take a crap load of power too i used to run them with horns. sorta hard to find too. but the back of the speakers arent small at all

Yeah OK, I was wrong. I thought the XXX 6.5 was unique in it's build.

unique yes in it design but umm it does what other mid basses do doesnt it? those avi's will take alot of power and will put out alot of volume even more so than the boston acoustics.

Well if I could switch over to 6.5"s and go with the XXX's, I really would. I can't put a spacer on my door and cut the door to make it fit because my window handle is right in the way. I would fab up some kicks but I have a clutch, and even with my crazy ways I don't think I could get it to fit. Also, I have the Nine.2, which will give me 100x2@4ohm. I would prefer to keep this amp since UPS just brought it a week ago. I have been looking at some CDT's, but I still dont know which ones would work best. I was browsing and came across the Boston Pro50's. How would these do with 100 watts? I am willing to be someone flexible, and will sell the amp if I have to. Thanks for all the help, all suggestions are welcome.

i only deal with boston comps... no other brands... just my personal preference

Boston comps are very nice. Between CDT & Boston, I'd take the Boston's. Though the Pro's would definitely smile with more than 100w per side.

And check into audiolife's suggestion on those AVI.

i got a pair of diamond audio m361 6.5 comps for 135 shipped brand new off ebay. they see 115watts and they keep up plenty with my XXX15 tuned to 34Hx fireing into the cabin from a baffle.........u could probly go one level higher end than those with your budget and get 5.25's and it'll be good. not trying to start a fight here so ill put it in terms that it shouldnt end up that way. what i call keeping up is a propotionally equal gain in volume between the mids and highs at all volumes as compared to the subs (including almost all the way up) now if you want it listenable where you can still make out whats going on then a good comp set with good power is a good/decent alternitive. when i say this however about 3/4's of the people who hear a balanced system preffer it vs the listenable approach. its basically what the thread starter wants to value it as.
