SQ in the Northeast?

I'm working with a couple former SQ competitors from the area on the checklist of things we'll be judging vehicles on. It won't be as big as the major orgs like USACi and IASCA, but should still be decent. This will be more of a way to break into the world of SQ competitions, those that like it can step up to the big leagues and hit the local USACi shows for some real SQ comps. Because we do a majority of our shows alongside car shows, there will be judging on the vehicles appearance, inside and out, along with several areas relating to the sound. We won't require competitors to burp their systems, but Amateurs and Novice class competitors will be required to do a sweep on the meter, and that will count towards the final score.

Since this new format will be a mix of SQ and looks, we're thinking of calling this new format Sound N' Style. Any thoughts or better ideas for a format name?

How are you gonna judge the sq portion?

The Amateur and Novice classes will be easier, we'll have them do a sweep and use that score towards their total. And we'll be using the IASCA SQ disc to check for the speakers being in phase, any noise in the system, pink noise to check for clipping. We're planning to buy the RTA for TermLab and use that for the Pro classes. Haven't quite figured out how we're going to judge that part yet, but we will have it all down by the time the season starts up. I haven't used the RTA before, so I'll have to do some playing around with it when we get it.....just waiting for tax money. We'll also be judging to make sure proper fusing and gauge wire is used, amps, enclosures and such are fastened down securely. Once we have everything set I'm going see about getting a pdf file added to the website so competitors will have a checklist of what we'll judge so they can be ready.

I want it to be more of an entry level SQ format, those that want to step it up a level and get a little more serious can hit the USACi shows. I'm hoping by having this new format we can bring new faces to competition for Both USACi and NESPL here in new England.

at local shows by me last decade (lol) they used an audiocontrol and an rta mic and did the flatline... at least that way its A - you are good and relatively flat or B - you **** and get 0's out of 0-15 score all the time like me

as long as you can get more scientific measurements, data, and output for the competitor to see as opposed to him thinking you are stiffing him over with a bad score or whatever in person.... yeah...

The RTA for TermLab shows a lot of info, I'm sure there's a way of printing the screen for competitors to see what they looked like on that meter. When we do the Boomer McLoud shows they do SQ too, they have a checklist and show it to the competitors after the show so they know where they need improvement for next time. I'll try something like this too.

I think the AC RTA is better that's why "real" SQ organizations like IASCA and the former SLAP used them, but the AC is crazy expensive.

A big reason to go with the Termlab RTA. Steve Meade has a video on his page somewhere with him using his RTA to set up his Tahoe, looks pretty sweet.
