Old School Trying to Catch Up to New School

Greetings all. I'm an old-school car audio guy trying to get caught up to the new things going on in car audio. First, a little history.

I started working on car audio in 1988, setting up a pretty killer system with some Alpine decks, later a Nakamichi TD-700 (to match the Dragon I ran at home). Driver selection was mostly Dynaudio with a/d/s/ amplifiers.

In 93, I started building a car for competition purposes. I had a good run at the local shows during 1994, but never went on to nationals even though I was invited. Some pictures of my system are shown below. Boston Acoustics separates, Kicker Solobaric Subs, and Alpine & a/d/s/ electronics. Good stuff.

Now I'm looking on towards simplier things. A decent deck (double-din, with iPod control, maybe some navigation as a plus), a single amplifier (probably a 6-channel, perhaps the Zapco with full DSP internals), some solid 6.5" separates and either two 10" or 4 7" subwoofers (up in the air on those atm). Just looking for ideas and what others have done, quality of sound is my #1 concern, I could care less if you can hear it outside the car.

So, that's my greeting, be well!

BTW, this system is long gone, so don't show up in my driveway to try and steal my stuff.

Man, that setup you had looked niiice. You might want to look into some 5-channel amps, too, that are specially designed for 4 speakers and a subwoofer.

I think that something like the Memphis Baby Belle would suit your needs well, or if you have a bigger budget, and would like more power, you could look into the Memphis Belle. Both are very high quality amplifiers, and would be great for an all-in-one setup.
