F.S. Escort Passport 9500ix (Blue) GPS Radar Detector - Great Condition

    Item(s) for Sale:

    Escort Passport 9500ix

    Item(s) Description/Condition:

I bought this radar detector along with a Valentine 1. I was taking a road trip from IN to NC & I wanted to test them out after seeing countless threads comparing the two units. I have to say, I'm sad to let this guy go, but there's no way I can hold onto $750.00 worth of Radar Detectors & not feel some sort of pain. I was very impressed with the 9500ix as it compares to the V1 (v1.8). The 9500ix has never gone off when there wasn't a threat. It's a lot more quiet than the V1, as the V1 had me tapping the break everytime I heard K/Ka bands of radar going off. This had me speeding up, slowing down, & speeding back up. I finally muted the V1 & only listened for the Passport. When the passport did pick up a threatening radar, I had been alerted by the 9500ix a few seconds before the V1 & it wasn't until ~1/4-1/2 mile down the road that I would finally spot that state trooper shooting the radar. The Passport provided me with MORE than enough time to slow down, where as the V1 seemed to have an opinion about any band of non threatening radar that it picked up. The other feature that I like is the GPS feature, which you can program yourself or rely on it's database to identify speed cameras, traps, & other threatening locations programmed into the GPS unit. This is very useful, especially now adays where speed cameras are showing up more & more as a quick an easy way for them to pocket more of our money. The passport 9500ix is one of the best radar detectors out on the market today. This radar has saved me countless times on the interstate & to just think, it only takes one ticket & you might as well have put that money towards this unit than risk getting another one, not to mention court fees, insurance hike, community service, & a year of probation if you are as unlucky as I was....
This package comes with the Passport 9500ix, power cord (with mute button), as well as brand new suction cups to mount it securely on the window

Hmm just curious. If the 9500ix was better, how come your sellign the better of the two?

I'm a valentine1 user myself, but your review has got me wondering if its worthwhile to switch over.
My fave thing about the valentine is that it tells you which direction and # of signals

Thanks for your inquiry. For me, I was probably destined to keep the V1 from the start, since the V1 came with a hardwire mount as well as the concealed display, which I decided to keep because of the potential opportunity to do a crazy V1 stealth install down the road. When ranking the two detectors side by side, it is key to ask yourself what's more important to you?

The V1 is indeed nice because of the patented arrow design, credit to Mike Valentine (the same guy who helped design & develop the passport 9500ix). For me (a heavy footed driver), I enjoyed being able to drive in silence down the road & not constantly smashing on the break pedal, killing my fuel economy, because of the V1s pesky false alerts! When I hear the 9500ix go off I know there's a 98% chance that the laser is indeed a REAL threat, whereas with the V1 it can lean towards the ratio of 50-50 for false alerts as compared to real threats. This and the fact that the Passport 9500ix has GPS technology that allows the driver to save locations in which they believe are prone to speed traps. The ability to detect red light cameras, upcoming known speed trap areas, and you the driver being able to ALSO program the detector to give you advanced warning if you consider a particular area being risky for speed traps or "police hangout spots". To best defend yourself, it is crucial to keep your eyes constantly scanning the horizon & your surroundings for any potential threats. I've noticed that not all cops cruise down the intersate with their radar scanning both in front & behind. In fact a lot of cops will cruise with their radar off & wait until they spot a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed (this actually happened to me a couple years ago and I paid for it) & once they have you in their sights they will flip that radar on & as soon as your detector can even register that radar, it's too late... Even cops posted up along the side of the road or behind an overpass will keep radar off until they spot a vehicle hauling balls down the interstate, in which case they use their radar to verify what they already know to be true... a pesky speeder.

A users ability to mark "risky" locations via GPS for speed traps, the vocalization feature identifying particular type of radar band(s), the mute function as a button on the power cord, as well as the fact that the alerts received by the 9500ix are more likely than not a REAL THREAT. These reasons in itself lead me to conclude that the 9500ix is the superior detection unit if you look at consistency & credibility. But if for you the user, it is more important above anything to know which direction you've been hit by radar (with the convenince of arrow indicators) than you might decide that the V1 is the better unit for you. I also ask myself, "why would Passport, with the help of Mike Valentine, design & develop a new (and more expensive) radar detector that would perform below the level of excellence that so many users experienced with the Valentine One?" To me that wouldn't make much sense at all. Technology is supposed to progress, not regress & when looking at the 9500ix, I have seen just that.

To conclude this novel, both are good radar detectors, you just need to ask yourself "which features will I find to be more beneficial for my driving style & preference." This answer is not going to be the same for every driver whose looking to invest in a radar detector. Hope my experiences with both units can shed some light for you & others looking to purchase a radar detector. FYI, I drove 1,300+ miles with both radars on my dash side by side as a basis for my conclusions & opinions regarding both detectors. Hope some of you found this useful!

If you wanted stealth, why not get the 9500ci? And how does this compare to a 8500x 50? The x50 is supposed to have better detectability vs. the 9500, iirc.

I didn't go with the 9500ci because I didn't have over a grand to shell out on a radar detector.

With regards to your second question, was this the same guy who was trying to convince you to buy his 8500x50 over a 9500ix? If so, that claim makes complete sense... Otherwise somebody hasn't done their homework. Radar detectors primary function are to detect certain "threatening" bandwiths of radar to give you the quickest warning (i.e. best detectability). A Passport 8500x50 retails for $250.00 & the 9500ix retails for ~$500.00. Why would Passport invest their time & energy into a radar detector that's double the price if it truly peforms worse than the model they put out over 4 years previously to the release of the 9500ix? To me this logic wouldn't make much sense, because if this was indeed the case, I don't believe that the 9500ix would have been as successful of a radar detector as it's users expressed & the reviews show. Aside from the GPS feature (which I don't believe adds an astounding $250.00 worth of technology), which is the 9500i (yet another setup from the 8500x50), do you personally think that the 8500x50 is a more detectible radar than the 9500ix? Because plain & simple, that's just not true. Take no offense, I would rather point out the logic for you when asking yourself these questions, as opposed to just giving you a simple "yes or no" response If I were in your shoes, I would identify the kind of driver you see yourself as, as well as the features in which YOU find to be most valuable. For me (an agressive driver), I wanted the best technology out on the market that was within my price range, because I wanted to take no chances with the law... I've learned my lessons the hardway, but hell had I invested in this detector back when I was 17, I could have saved myself $600.00 worth of fines, a hike in insurance, community service, & one year of probation. When you look at it from that perspective, to me it's a no brainer. Best of luck with your search.

I'm just going off what I've read. Some say the x50 is better than the 9500i or ic, based on real world tests.

Yea, the $250.00 radar detector is probably better than the $500.00 9500ix or the $1,000 9500ci... Just as I heard how the DD 3512 pounds way louder than the DD 9512, but I'm just going off what I've read too. Lesson: never take anything you read online for fact. Pull your resources & decide for yourself what you believe. If you really believe that, do yourself a favor & save $250.00 by purchasing the 8500x50 if you really think it's better than either of the two you mentioned. Come on now, lol this is when common sense and logic should be used! Maybe do a little more research before dropping any substantial amount of $ on a radar detector & save yourself the headache of having to re-sell it because it doesn't perform as well as the guy on a forum told you it did. Just tryin to look out for ya man.

Edit: I'd be curious to see these "Real World Tests" you're referring to.

now adays jammers are the only way minus the lazy cop parked on the highway running his detector while catching a nap.. most cops play the waiting game with the radar.. they know most people have detectors and will not turn it on until then.. hell now adays they can detect if you have a detector

I'm not sure that's a better alternative, according to this website, most radar jammers don't work & a traditional radar detector is recommended above all.

That's also another reason why I ALWAYS unplug my radars when going through VA, because even if it's hidden you can still get pulled over for it & if the cop finds it, he will give you the honors of smashing it on the pavement... Now that would be the worst!
