Re: Sound deadener review
Not a bad thread and your right, it can be hard to find good info on here about various deadeners
Re: Sound deadener review
Good info here man! I used FatMat, and FatMat Rattle Trap XXX here were my results after about 3-4 months only

Who wrote this and how old is it
Re: Sound deadener review
FYI Edead is butyl based. Pre 2010 it was asphalt. Nonetheless it still does not stick worth a darn.

I wrote this on other sites but never posted it over here.
Re: Sound deadener review
Nice thread, thanks. I actually have some Rattle Trap right now. :( I am happy it is not on my roof, but assume that after so long it will fall off my trunk lid. Welp, gotta get some new stuff.
Re: Sound deadener review
What do you guys think of liquid deadener? Such as second skin spectrum and spectrum sludge / etc?
How effective? Price/performance? Only use in nooks and crannies, or coat trunk with it? Etc
Re: Sound deadener review
my fatmat never loosens or nothing. and i have no ashpalt smell. it was completely rubber based. its been over 100 degrees where it sits and never comes undone or nothing. and it wasnt a pain or need to be heated to be installed

Same here. Last week it was about 100F in my car for a few days and none of my Fatmat fell off. I just made sure that I wiped down all my surfaces with rubbing alcohol. Maybe the older stuff was asphalt based and the newer is butyl? It may not work the best but it was inexpensive and it helps.
Re: Sound deadener review
Ok you guys might own the Fatmat Mega Mat works great can be installed in any temp. Sticks like a SOB. It is almost impossible to get it off when it is stuck to metal, and forget it if you stick it to its self. That stuff is butyl. There is 3 different levels they sell.

its cheaper to double up on it than it is to get enough to do a single layer of it of most other stuff

also the secondskin is not thicker then rattle trap.. i have both in my truck now and LOTS of each.. however the secondskin is stiffer and does what i need it to do better and the flat black looks better imo then the chrome type foil... I have rattle trap and damp pro
Re: Sound deadener review
just curious but no where in this thread is a testing format. seems like the only thing you are basing your review on is how good the mat sticks to a surface, not an actual way of testing dampening effect. the reason I bring this up is b/c I made something that I'd like to actually test against these products but it seems there are no definitive test that show how or what makes one better than another. I've seen points that Sound deadener showdown have made that ensure effectiveness and some of what make a product more effective. if anyone knows how to actually make a fair test for these products I'd love to put my product in that test. the difference with my product is that it would actually need to be applied with a contact cement or spray adhesive like 3M Super 77.
