    sub problem

    hey guys. yesterday, my receiver stopped recognizing my sub. i know the sub and the amp arent blown cause it still plays music and when i jiggle the sub cable i get feedback from the sub. when i switch it to sub on, i see the lil sub box on the lcd, but there nothing recognized in it. what should i do? sub is mtx sw2 and amp is kenwood vr707

    Check voltage coming out of the sub pre-out. If you don't use your system for HT you can just run speaker wires to the sub amp, but I'd still recommend getting the preout fixed.

    no i don't use it for HT...so how do i check the voltage? oh and where would i run the speaker wire to? just any speaker jack on the back? i'm just using fronts, and in within a week, i'll have the rears going. which jack would u recommend?

    Get a DMM, see if the sub out is putting anything out. When i say speaker jacks i mean on the back of the amplifier if you have them, most active subs do. Then you run your main speaker outputs to the sub, then from the sub to your mains, then everything will be getting signal.

    yeah my sub has speaker jacks, but just a left and a right...my sony one however, has 2 pairs of speaker in and 2 pairs of speaker outs..but i don't use it. whats this dmm? how much does it cost?

    whats this dmm? how much does it cost?
    Digital multimeter - Google it. You want something that at least does voltage, resistance, and current.

    like the tubes before it, it ain't mine, although I wouldn't mind if it was

    I should be getting a Rega Planar 3 with a modded tonearm by this summer...and then need to work on a tube phono preamp for it.
