    Two towers for home audio

Hey guys, I just recently received a job offer and will be starting in January. I'm looking for a setup that will last and provide great sound for music/TV(sports and shows)/movies. Loudness is not all that high of a priority, but I do enjoy watching concerts relatively loud (not loud enough for disturb neighbors)

I am looking for something (I think) with 2 towers and a sub (eventually). If I decide I want a center speaker for movies/TV that can come later.

I will be on the search for a house to rent for the first couple years of work once I take my last exam next Wednesday, but until then, I'm not sure of the living room dimensions, acoustics, flooring, etc.

Let's say I have a budget of ~$1k for 2 towers and an amp if that's possible, but take that for what its worth. I would like to purchase the two towers first and run them off of my crappy Sony 5.1 amp. Next, buy an amp/receiver for the towers. Then decide what size sub I would like to run and how much power based off of the sound and bass from the towers.

Any recommendations for 2 great sounding towers? Thanks. It's been a while since I have visited this forum, so..Hello again.

Anyone ever check out the HTD speakers? I'm possibly considering this setup, but I would like to speak with their representatives to ensure its all a good match.

Ive got to agree, Klipsch is the way to go. Synergy line is at best buy I think, if you want to check them out.

ugh, i dislike Klipsch quite a bit. they are examples of poorly done pa speakers. I've auditioned them over the past 20 years and they only seem to get worse. Course, they are usually side-by-side witih B&W, Paradigm, Kef, Definitive Technology, PSB, etc. and Klipsch is always the worst in the group.

If you want an example of horns done right - look at Avant Garde.
    Hornlautsprecher - Avantgarde Acoustic

Paradigm is my go-to tower for under a grand per pair. the Monitor series, 7, 9, or 11.

You can get a pair of Monitor 7 towers and an Onkyo receiver in your budget and have a good starting point. New or used.

have you been helped by me? i'd love to know. shoot me a PM.

Re: Two towers for home audio

They don't sell the synergy line at BB from what I've seen. Only the similar looking ICON series. I'd look into Reference if you're dead set on Klipsch though. If not, look into the other brands mentioned by KHA.

    Refs: Dipitydoo, appollyon, bad95gt, revrider1, jwh1598, ampjunkielikeme, deathpenalty18, ssackett, snoopysnooper, corey0928, SPLAudio, Clifff150, CL1CKCLACK, ShawnT, West + more

Gotta go with Klipsch, any reference series is great. For sub I would recommend velodyne to anybody that wants good sound and low lows.

Re-sale on big towers is dirt. Browse what's local to you on eBay or Craigslist and pick something up on the cheap. Or DIY. There's hundreds of good plans out there that'll likely be = or > those thousand dollar brand name units you'll get at a boutique store.

I recommend going to do some research on AVS Forum. There is tons of info there. The Polks that are sold at New Egg, the Monitor line are "ok". The better Polk stuff you can score on their Ebay store.

Re: Two towers for home audio

I got a nice set of Marantz towers off Craigslist for 200. They're old school but sound fantastic! Going to take them Speakerworks here in Tulsa for recones. Tower speakers like DCM, Sansui, Polk, etc. can be found on Craigslist for dirt cheap. They have no resale value for some reason.
