How would a Onkyo TX-SR502 be?? It will be used for music and movies equally..Im thinking of building some custom towers, and bringing my ava 15 from my HT to the cave
i preferred my onkyo over my harmon kardon...more power,and 4 ohm stable if need be

I like Onkyo. The TX-SR603X is in your budget used, and a nice receiver (if you don't need HDMI switching). I would stick with 600 series or 700 series when looking used. Great value and features.
I also like Marantz and Denon but in general, Oknyo has better features for the same price point.
