    Sony Blu-Ray Player price drop!

Worst Buy has the BDP-S300 for a new low price of 499.99!

Six months to a year and it will be half that.

Sorry HD-DVD fans, but that format is nearly dead now.

No, Sony's orginial player was the BDPS1 that was $999 new and still $799 in stores. This is a completely new player to get a better share of the market. Physically, its shorter than the BDPS1 but still, a true blu-ray player; full 1080P output as well as upconversion to full 1080P.

Blah I don't rent movies I buy them....
and they will continue to rent online and so will netflix. do you really think its worth it to drive to a store and spend $3-6 for gas when you can just get it in the mail? its a last ditch effort for blockbuster before their b&m rental stores go obsolete and downloads and mail rentals become the next big thing.

the ps3 for $100 more gets you a game system and an sacd player.

$500 is not a deal imo. drop it to $300 then i might dump my ps3 which I have only bought 1 game for lol. since pretty much their is no selection.

HD DVD still has the game for cheaper player $240 plus 5 free movies so your paying $90 for the player... heh imo they should just take out the 5 free movies and drop player prices.

More people rent than buy, and with so many Blockbuster outlets that you're likely to drive by one nearly everyday, waiting for an order to process and be delivered by mail seems extremely lazy and not well thought out.

Besides, BB now has the same program as Netflix but you can exchange movies without cost at the store, so no waiting for an order.

I'm pretty sure the "Blu-ray" has to do with the optics in the player. Think it uses a blue laser instead of red.

Yah but blu ray wont be available in all their stores more like 1/3. But do you think their gonna add something new and spend so much money on it and not pass the cost to the consumers?

Sony has an advantage that Toshiba (inventor of HD-DVD) doesnt have; ownership of a movie company, so they probably cut Blockbuster a deal to sell them blu ray discs at the same price as they currently pay for DVD's.

    (If not cheaper.)

I could even see Sony subsidizing Blockbuster blu ray costs on movies by studios Sony doesnt own if they really wanted to promote their hi-def standard over Toshiba's.

That was probably one of the reasons blockbuster went blue

another reason could be cause it matches their logo lol
