I have a $400 Onkyo 5.1 setup, and it does a great job.
For something compareable to Bose in price, you can get the new Onkyo 5.1 THX approved setup for under $800, $800 worth of Bose gets you a few 3" cube speakers LOL.
Anyway, I have had a couple different Onkyo setups and they have always been great for the money.

budget please?
remember the more you spend now the less you spend later. ive changed receivers 3 times in the last year and speakers 2 times and giong on to the third time and amps 2 times.....

No more than $1200. I would like to stay under a $1000 but I can empty the pennies out of the piggy banks if I get a nice bump in what I get for the little more. About broke after spending $3000 on a Samsung flat!
Any sites best to buy these from? Model numbers if you have them. Thanks!

ok you can get 5 of these
http://www.hometheaterstore.com/Prod...ductCode=DM303
and if you dont care about hdmi switching or processing then something simple for the receiver like this one
http://www.hometheaterstore.com/Prod...ctCode=AVR1507
as for the sub
http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-1.html
that one or whichever b&w (member here) thinks suits the b&ws more
another option i like more out of all is this one
the onkyo 605 and this speaker package (ive never heard this package but ive heard very good things aobut it)

if you want to stretch your budget a bit this one would be better

I guess I should post since I was sumond...
B&W are hard to find subwoofers to match with. But, what I can say that a book shelf is a lot easier to match with than a floorstander.
Anyway, my recommendations as usual is to go out and listen to stuff and buy from a reputable local dealer that you feel comfortable with. You might spend a bit more money but you won't regret it in the long run.
At this price range you might be better to DIY your own subwoofer with something from several of the car audio companies. It is very hard for me to recommend things at this budget range, however there are some learning rules of thumb.
1) Don't skimp on the speakers. Spend about half your budget on speakers. Also, if you don't have enough money for a 5.1 system don't get it. You can always add loudspeakers later to complete the system when you have money.
2) Make sure you get a decent enough receiver/processor with enough power to driver you speakers. I have seen people get 200 Watt loudspeakers and try driving them with 70 Watts of power. Doesn't work, a good dealer can help you make this choice.
3) Get a good source. With the digital age the Crap in Crap out isn't as true as it used to be but it still is very true. Oppo makes some fantasic units, and if you want to use BR or HD there are plenty of options for you that way. The PS3 makes an AWESOME BR player plus it is a kick *** game console.
4) Finally, don't be afraid to tell the stores you visit your budget. (By store I don't mean Best Buy or CC) Most of the guys who work at Hi/Mid-Fi stores started out as kids who wanted an awesome system and grew into men who work in a toy shop.![]()
Also, I forgot to add...
The B&W 600 Series 3 are no longer being made, however they are AMAZING loudspeakers for the money.
You might be able to find a set of the super cheap if you look around. Some of the dealers are even offering crazy prices on the new Series 4 so that they can get people in the door...

I was kind of looking for a PNP bundled system that maybe I could add or change later if something better comes out.

I use onkyo my self. Their reciever are great. As far as subwoofer My fav is still volodyne.
Some people hate bose some love it. My take is I hate their satalite speakers but i like their higher series starting at 301's and such. If your going to spend that type of money you shouldn't buy a boxed system
but if you must buy htib get this
