how hot is normal? im noticing mine is getting hotter so hot i can barely touch it sometimes and if its on say about 4 hours you can smell burning plastic coming out of it.

But, it sounds like it is getting too hot...
I would try getting a different one....
Either that or you are getting a voltage on your cable line in and that voltage could cause the system to heat up. I have seen this happen with some sat receivers...

never changed it i just moved it by itself it was on top of hte receiver and now it doesnt get hot anymore and the receiver doesnt either well the receiver does after a couple of hours of movie watching lol

Yea... You shouldn't put anything on top of a Receiver or amp if they are going to be generating a lot of heat....
