towers are multiple speakers stacked in a tower

satelites are the little speakers (little mid and sometimes tweet) that can be stuck virtually anywhere

(if i got my facts straight)

That's about as simple as it can get. You can also do bookshelf speakers which you can use as satellites, but they make for good placement mostly anywhere.

    Re: I NEED H/A Speakers!!!

depends on your space and application. towers are good for front speakers, but there more expensive quality vs quality. if its in a small room, just get a real good set of book shelfs. i its for rear stage- satelites or bookshelfs will be more than enough

    Re: I NEED H/A Speakers!!!

Paradigm, Energy, Mirage and Klipsch are worth looking at.

But if you can afford the B & W s I would definitely take those.

The 600 series as recommended above are fantastic sounding spearkers and they happen to be my next speakers.

    Re: I NEED H/A Speakers!!!

You know with almost full confidence I can pretty much say that the DM303 would beat anything in it's price range and $300 MSRP pair is pretty cheap. You can probably pick them up for under 2 if you did some serious looking......

But, I still stand with the 600 series rec. Those little DM601 S3's that I have would blow your mind if you heard them....

I'm assuming you're using those for surrounds.??

Also, what is the rating on your RB-1080.??

That is correct..... I have toyed around with them on the mains periodically when I was bored....

The RB-1080 is 200x2 Watts but will do lots more before major distortion happens.... I like headroom.....

    Re: I NEED H/A Speakers!!!

To: B & W EE and thylantyr or anyone with home a/v savvy.

Also, not to threadjack but this thread has some relevance to my question so I figured why start another thread.

I plan to in the next 1 to 3 years to upgrade from my A/V receiver to seperate Preamp Processor and multi-channel amplifier. However, I will NOT settle for less on these components by paying less in order to buy them both at one time so I will have to buy one at a time.

My question is if I do it this way which one should I upgrade first.?? I can either buy the Pre Pro first and use the multi-channel inputs on my reciever and effectively use it as an amp. OR I can buy the multi-channel amp first and use my receiver as a Pre Pro. I'm leaning toward buying the amp first as my receiver has decent enough processing capabilities.

Here is a link to my existing receiver that isn't even out of warranty yet.
