Pioneer DEH-P8MP Motorized Face Problem

Today when I parked my car after a nice long trip I turned off my car and waited for it to open up and give me the face like usual, but it didn't. I tried everything to get the motorized face to open up so that I could take the faceplate off, but alas, nothing worked. Is there some common problem that affects motorized faces that is easy to fix or am I going to have to send this thing to Pioneer for some warranty work? I'd really like to avoid sending it back since that costs money, time, and I installed the thing such that it is a pain in the *** to take out.

i dont think theres an easyfix to the problem. i had that problem on a premier 960, and i tried everything but i had to send it back. it is the mad sux0r.

is this a common issue with pioneer decks or was it just a bad luck model?


i ask because im getting mine in the mail this week soon and i really dont want to encounter this same problem as there are many theives in this neighborhood

more motorized parts = more probably of malfunction. i havent heard too many problems about the 8 and 860, just the 960.

Thanks for the input guys. I went out today and it just started working! I have no idea why it stopped yesterday. Must have been a little temperamental.

I love the deck. It has all the features I need, great looks, and then some. The one big difference from my last Pioneer (the 7500MP) is that the MP3 load times are EXTREMELY fast. I'm also quite fond of the customizable OEL display. I have the name of my car in the background.

The motorized face, though it isn't something I was really looking for, is very nice. When you turn the car off the unit beeps at you and the face folds down so that you can take it. It then folds back up a few seconds later and you're on your way. Very smooth.

The "rotary commander" knob is a very sweet feature as well. You can press "List" and then just turn the thing and scroll through all 150+ songs on your MP3 CD very quickly. This is a feature I wish all MP3 head units had.

Other than the one hiccup I had the other day with the motorized face, this deck has been rock solid. It never skips (even though my ride is VERY rough) and it has acted as expected.

^is it a confusing deck to toggle with the EQ's/visual images/settings/etc ?
and hows the power off that deck? do the 6.5v preamp rca's help alot?

have you tried loading your own images using that program to create visual images, movies, backgrounds, etc off the pioneer website? you can upload any avi clip from ur comp, form it into a smaller file and it'll play off ur deck. pretty interesting to me heh.

i dont think that one has 6.5's does it? I got the 860mp and it took a few hrs to get use to the settings but it is a easy to use after you play with it. But its very simple for the main things just the higher end eq's and stuff takes time. But it is a great deck.

OT question: is the DEH-P8MP's sub rca preamp output 1 single rca or 2? want to know so i can buy my y-adapter in advance.

M@njo, the 8MP has 3 pairs of RCA outs (6 total). There are 2 for the subs, 2 for the rear, and 2 for the front. You won't need a Y-adapter.

Also, at first the deck is a little confusing, but, with the manual at your side, it is pretty easy to figure out everything. You'll discover that they big knob in the middle does just about everything.

I have, in fact, loaded my own custom images onto the deck. I haven't tried videos or anything, but I assume that it is just as easy. I'll put pictures on my website whenever I get around to it.

I don't know if the 6.5V preouts help a whole lot, since I haven't tried my amp with any other head units.

azazel: the OEL software i downloaded says it doesnt support the P8MP as its blue display instead of color.

is there one specific for it? or can i just load up the ones that i got and it'll just be blue displaY?

soccrstar: The link on the Pioneer website is a link to the wrong OEL Screensaver studio - that one only works for the higher end models like the 8600 and 9600. The one you really want is the PCLink3b
