wat features does it lack that a normal deck has?
(normal = pioneer deh-p7600mp, alpine cda-7893 etc..)

i need to have control of bass/treble
sub on/off or sub volume would be nice
able to play cd's and mp3's
this has 80x4 which is a huge plus for me

ummhhh.. im not really sure wat else i need, but i have a JVC KD-S790 (which doesnt have a lot of features) which was perfectly fine for me, but i wanted mp3 also, and a little more control than that.

You will never see 80watts x 4 out of a 12 volt head unit. You just can't feasably push that kind of amperage through a single din sized unit and dissipate enough heat to keep it alive.

By 2012 (?) most vehicles will have come out with 36/42 volt charging systems, and hopefully 100wrms/channel HUs will become the norm.

I would not buy that If I were you. Sure it will work, but for how long. true you will never see 80 watts x4. More like 4-9 watts x4. So I would recomend a more reliable HU like the alpine you listed.
