personally ive used the alpine, and its a great deck. Havent had pioneer experience other than the low line though. Thanks guys

Get him to look at both and see which one he likes - after all, he's going to be the one using it every day.

IIRC the major differences are the Alpine's 4v preouts vs the Pioneer's 2.2v preouts and the Alpine having one more EQ band (4 vs 3).

Can't go wrong with either one - let him make the decision - even if it's based on aesthetics, he'll still be getting an awesome head unit either way. They're not cheap, they're not going to fall apart under normal use. Does he have anything else in his system that would warrant choosing one over the other that we should know about?

Everyone who owns and Alpine or a Pioneer can now all post saying "I own an Alpine or Pioneer, get that one because it's better.".
