    Old School Headunit

Looking for suggestions. I wanted to run the new Pioneer P80, however my budget for the next year doesnt allow it while I pay off student loans. I want to find something that fits with the OEM look of a 98 Infiniti QX4. Brand doesnt really matter as long as its a reputable brand. Id like to stick with the Pioneer or Alpine if at all possible.

My only requirements are that it has 3 sets of preouts, time alignment, active, and potential iPod compatibility. Doesnt need any additional aux outputs, doesnt need to have 76v preouts, XM or HD, etc.

    Ideas?

I don't think anything late 90's vintage would have time alignment. Best HU from the mid 90's IMO was the first gen Rockford Fosgate (when they were built by Delco in the good ol' US of A).

Theres a Pioneer DEX-P1R in the classifieds (comes with the matching changer).
    Pioneer dex p1r

"This is by far one of the best units I have ever seen. If you enjoy bells and whistles, this has them! Looking at the list of CONS, I see I have quite a lengthy list, but I’m just trying to be unbiased. Truth is I LOVE this unit. I cant say enough about it. The time alignment (only available in PRO-MODE) is by far my favorite part. If you are considering this unit, but aren’t going to use it in Pro-Mode, you are missing out on the best features I think. The sound quality is nothing less than superb. The features are nothing less than outstanding. It would cost quite a bit of money to add on all these features to another head unit externally."

    Re: Old School Headunit

Alpine has a dozen HU's with 6-channel T/A, crossover, parametric EQ that can be had for less than $200. And their user interface is logical.

Pioneer has always been just illogically organized, and common adjustments are hidden in menus (sub level, for example).

This is Project Cheap SQ. I want to get out of this as cheap as possible, but still have all the features I want.

Nice combo but way out of his price range I am sure since he is only looking for as CHEAP as possible.

Alpine CDA-7949. CD changer doesn't work, which won't be a problem if you can either fix it, or use a separate CD changer. $100+shipping
