isnt that the thing that pretty much just boosts the highs and lows in an attempt to "recover lost information from compressed files"?

With features like that you're not going to damage anything by trying it. If it sounds better, use it. I haven't used a Pioneer head unit with that feature, but it sounds similar to what Alpine used to offer with Media Xpander. It's not good for all situations, but I like it at low volume when I have my young son in the car.

I used to use it on 1/2. Anything more then that I could tell they were really getting boosted. All the sound enhancers (loud, bb, sr ect) stay off for me, but if I need a little boost @ low volume on certain songs i'll give the s/r a push.

I mean they market it as a feature to restore music (mp3's ect). If anything Id use it at 1. I havn't tested it enough to give give a correct answer, only my opinion.

    Re: Pioneer advanced sound retriever

Funny fact: I watch exo on yt once and a while. He stated to never use sr in a vid a couple months back cause it damaged something. I watched a recent vid of his demo of a 3200dvd and it's at the highest setting. I take what he say's with a grain of salt but thought it was funny.

    Re: Pioneer advanced sound retriever

Its supposed to restore some of the information lost on COMPRESSED music, such as MP3's.. It does nothing for CD's or other "nearly" lossless forms of audio.

Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine and a few others all have the same type of system. It basically boosts the high and some of the very low frequencies. It shouldn't cause any distortion (damage) except for on Maybe the highest setting.

The problem with MP3's and other compressed forms of audio is you end up losing some of the sound information in order to have an overall smaller file size. This is how a MP3 runs about 7MB compared to a WAV file of around 40-80MB. Losing the sound details is the only way to effectively compress the music.

'12 Nissan Altima - Bone Stock - Sounds good, but adding subs soon.

'02 BMW 330xi (AWD coupe), every option - SOLD

Motorator Video - Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever

^^ One of the many vid's on asr.

Turned it on for the ride home from work and did notice abit of clarity along with my existing eq setting's. Could've just been my head playing games with me though.

When I retune my stereo in a couple months after some new gear's installed I might try to incorporate (only 1/2, 2/2 is to enhanced for me) it into my tuning.

It seem's like that's the sweetspot unless you have really shitty quality music.
