Alpine Ipod Error (PLEASE_HELP)

First things first I'm a noob forgive me. I just installed my Alpine IDA-X305 also Alpine KTP-445 power pack. sounds great install was a pain. I don't have the USB/IPod connecter it came with but I have the extender that goes from the back of the HU. I tried using my Apple USB Cord And Error code Came up NO USB DEVICE. Using Iphone 4 Version 5.0.1. Do I have to use alpine connecter. does not make any since. any ideas, suggestions would be awesome thanks in advanced.

Update.... Bought the alpine USB IPOD Connecter. 30 bucks later everything's working 30$ for a usb cable come on alpine your slippin

Not if they change the pins around between the USB and the headunit making them proprietary.
