Input on Kenwood KDC X994 and questions ? (KIV700, KIV900)

I am looking for input on the Kenwood KDC-X994 before I purchase it.

I also have some questions....

1) Is there a way to mute the internal amp while still outputting to the line outs ? I'd like to implement a headphone system in my truck so that people can listen while other people sleep.

2) Will it play flac or wav files from the USB port ?

3) Will it broadcast music on Bluetooth so that one could listen with a Bluetooth headset ?

I'm thinking of getting the X994 instead of the KIV-700 or KIV-900 because it has a built in CD player, Bluetooth and it appears the KIVs won't play wav files on the USB port, thus there is no way to play uncompressed music on them.

BTW: I'll be using this head unit in conjunction with an iPad like tablet, to be installed at a later date.

Comments, advice ?

One more question... will the X994 (and others) play from any USB storage device or just flash devices ? Ie will they play material from a hard drive ?

i have the x991 and i have yet to try wav or flac as there almost impossible to find.. if you send me some via email ill try it for you.. im sure if the 991 can the 994 will..

How about a wav file ? You should be able to get one by ripping a CD.

Noob here, after much lurking. I just installed my X994 this past weekend.

1) Haven't tried it yet

2) I only listen to FLAC off my Sansa. Plays great thru the aux port, haven't tried thru the USB yet, but since my player uses a USB adapter I'll try it this weekend, as well as from a thumbdrive.

3)Haven't tried reception thru my BT headst yet. Interesting thought, will try that also, but streams music from my Blackberry via bluetooth fine, except why would you stream via bt (bt quality sux) when you obviously prefer lossless (wav, flac)?

Other than that, so far I'm impressed with the tuning options and sound quality. The BT works great. After initial pairing, it does it automatically as soon as I turn the HU on. The display also shows signal strength and battery status and displays SMS texts. Automatically downloads the phonebook and you can dial out off that, by voice or several other choices. Everything can be done from the remote also, including tuning the DSP on the fly. Very happy so far.
