Chance at a free HU install...should I take it?

My HU recently got stolen, and the insurance agency is sending me a new one and paying for a shop to install it...Not sure how much I trust the local shops though...might just tell them I'm good with just the new unit and they can forget the install...what do you guys think? If you had the opportunity to have a local shop install your head unit for free would you do it? (Keep in mind my car is kind of difficult to work on, crutchfield warns that "Dash disassembly is difficult"...and they aren't kidding, it's a pain, but I think I'd rather put up with the difficulty in order to make sure it's done right...

I'd do the install myself but out of curiosity what kind of car do you drive?

    an 04 Hyundai Accent

The real pain of the install is the trim around the head unit is all one piece, and the climate controls screw into that trim, but from the back. So you have to like pull it out a little, then stick a wrench with a phillips bit in there and slowly work the screws out...

I personally would Take the headunit, And write myself a reciept for the install, but then again that is me.

Would this be fraud? Paying myself to do work?

They're going to have the shop bill them directly, I don't think they want to just mail me a check ya know? And I'm pretty sure they would know, if I tried to make up my own shop...so yeah that's fraud

Re: Chance at a free HU install...should I take it?

If you don't trust your local shops, then do it yourself and don't worry about whether the shop gets the $$ or not..If you have a decent place close by, then save yourself some headache and let'em take care of it for you..
A better way to remove your HU is to look under the center of the dash on both sides--the heater&a/c control cables are quite easy to locate and unclip from the heater box, then that whole dash bezel will pull out...

People who are driving faster than you are maniacs, and people driving slower are morons...
