    IPOD/HardDrive users come in!

how is the SQ when you use a ipod or harddrive as your source of music?
any ups/downs to using them as sources?
if you used both before, which has the better SQ?

    thanks.

the device has nothing to do with the quality of the music. its where you get and the bitrate as well. lower bitrate smaller the file worse the quality. higher bitrate larger file better quality.

Well, as long as whoever built it put more than a second of thought or two into the DAC I've actually heard of people having better results using the multipin connector on the Ipod and using their own DAC, vs. relying on the headphone out. The Wadia transports work this way.

But the bigger part in the OP's question is what format the files are...if you're really concerned about quality, skip MP3s and use a lossless format.

I use a hard drive as my main source of music at home, and I can't tell a difference between FLAC and the original CDs.

I use a thumb drive and an older ipod for my jvc head unti....it does boil down to the bit rate as stated.

    Don't forget sampling rate.

a 320 kbit file will sound like **** if it's sampling rate is something like 22hz, rather than 44hz or 48hz

    Re: IPOD/HardDrive users come in!

    Wierd^^

IF you could find anything that played FLACS thats the way to go hands down IMO
But I dont know that any headunits do (so the flash wouldnt work) and an IPod cant play FLACS either. But yea, its all about the quality of the files, not the device playing it (assuming they play the same types of files)
