I just bought a alpine CDA-9886 - USB question

Do I really need this to play Mp3's from usb or can I just run a usb extension cable ?

I just have a flashdrive usb plugged into the usb input on the 9886 and it works fine.

NOPE its for other HU. Only ( i guess) the 9886 has the ability of built in USB , others doesn't , just ipod.

IMO i'd prefer having USB than IPod.

Just buy a female to male usb cable and extend to whereever u want in ur car. IT works with USB sticks and some MP3s that has plug play function like the koreans ones or ones that u bought at walmart.
