I have the same HU I had that problem too pull out your HU and check the connections that's all it was with mine.
How old is it? I had a Pioneer deck that worked flawlessly for about 2 years then one day it decided to skip on music. I swapped it out for an Alpine CDA-9887 and the problem was solved. I think there is something inside that must wear out over time....

I have had my CDA-9831 for 4ys or so and have had no trouble I take canned air and blow it out occasionally but know of no other maintenance. Stop by your local Alpine dealer talk to an installer not a sales rep. Good luck
