Would it make sense to still get an active capable HU like 880prs, cd7000, or 9887?

It wouldn't hurt incase you want to go active in the future. Those head units are really intended to be used active, otherwise you wont be taking full advantage of them and you could get the same sound for cheaper. I say if you have the money and like the looks and features of one inparticular you could buy it and then have the ability to go active in the future.

who cares if you like the HU get it.
I think it would still be worth it. Take the 9887.....the next model down does not have any sort of built it processing. Whether or not you go active having an adjustable x-over, time alignment, and an EQ would be beneficial.

Since you guys said that I won't be taking all of its advantage and could get the same sound for cheaper, I'm leaning back to my old choice of the Pioneer DEH-P780MP/7800 or the Clarion DXZ855MP (I know it's old).

I didn't mean that their only advantage was active capabilities, they also have processing and time alignement that are great things to have. But you can get these features on less expensive decks.
Not with Alpine or Eclipse. They only offer these options with the units that you have listed, if you go any lower down the line those options are no longer available.

Well for example, the 9887 still has a superior dac over its lesser brethren. Also has imprint, etc.

Out of these two, Pioneer DEH-P780MP/7800 and Clarion DXZ855MP, which do you think is better? They have beautiful screens and looks good to me in the specs. I'm not even a real audio pro so I probably won't need all the extra features of the high end decks anyways.
All i can tell you is that i personally prefer Pioneer decks.
