    Re: Good HU?

I think you'd be happy with that unit. I just picked up a 790 and it has really killer sound quality.

    Current setup:
    2005 Mazda6 (non-Bose)
Head Unit: Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X790 with iPod adapter and steering wheel control adapter
Front Stage: Exile Xtec 6.5" (thanks Towncar) Kenwood 8402 (bridged to 180wrms x 2)
Rear Fill: Kenwood KFC-C6879ie (rear on deck power)
Subwoofer: Infinity Reference 1040w 10" sub in a sealed enclosure Blaupunkt PCA2120 bridged to 300wrms
    Future plans:
    deadening on doors

    Re: Good HU?

At first I was like....a KDC-X890 for under $160 before shipping?
Then I noticed it is a refurb. Not a bad thing entirely inandofitself, though...

As far as whether or not it was a good buy? Assuming the unit works as it should then yes, it was a good buy.

'Tis nice to see more people here of late trying out the newer eXcelon offerings rather than dismissing the possibility of a Kenwood deck being worth considering.

I picked up my X790 on Ebay for $130 with shipping BNIB. Don't know how I managed that. Just not enough bidders I guess.

    Nice buy there, friend.
I wish I could lay claim to having gotten a similar deal on my XXV-01D but I can't. I wanted a valid manufacturer's warranty (2 years on eXcelon decks as opposed to the 'regular' Kenwood line which comes with a 1 year) so I sourced mine through Crutchfield.

I honestly would have preferred the warranty as well. I had never purchased this type of thing from Ebay before for that very reason. But I saw this on Ebay and decided to bid, and to my surprise no one at all bid after me.
