What are you looking for? DVD player or just stereo? If it is just stereo you can get some really good sounding headunits for that price. If you want dvd and proc I would agree with Hebrew Hammer and get W200/H701. BTW Hebrew Hammer, weren't you at finals? I think I met you. I had the Green Chevy Pick up with no back seat only amps and subs in the bed. I think you knew Mike Lau?

How is it retarded when the guy is reliable. Especially judging how his setup sounds? The unit is a step up form his unit so why wouldn't that be a logical assumtion?

I'm going to agree with those that said spend it on a combo instead of the H/U alone. Having the eq, T/A, and crossover options from the p9 and h701 are worth the price and especially since you can control it from the h/u instead of buying an outside unit. I personally think that would be your best option, just go over to diymobileaudio.com and see how many happy reviewers there are with the w200/h701 combo.
hi guys
my friends say to me that there isn't much difference between the 1000$ hu & 400$ for SQ! for example they say there's not much sq advantage from the p880 to the clarion drz9255!! and the high price of drz9255 is more for its features! they are crazy or im so hypersesitive in sq?! i'v only read the reviews and have not tested the tow
another question: how much is the difference between the cd-500 & cd-700II in sound quality? is it worth the extra money?(1200$) , 1200$ for sq only or other features?
please guide me!

For those who have heard them all, the clarion, denon, and macs sound the best. The clarion has built in (though comparitively limited but still useful) DSP. If uber flexibility/tuning is what you're after, the alpine or pioneer combos would be better suited.
There were a couple of groups that did High End Head Unit Showdown tests. The second site may be down or gone...not sure but I will link it:
TESTED:
Denon DCT-Z1, McIntosh MX5000, McIntosh MX4000, Nakamichi CD700ii,
Clarion DRZ-9255, Panasonic TX-5500W, Grundig, Eclipse ECD-510 - RESULTS ARE ON PAGE 6 of THIS 12 PAGE THREAD. Hebrew Hammer was a part of this...suprised he did not link it:

I think the Nearfield Audio site is down but they did a showdown of several high end decks a few years ago....Denon, McIntosh, P9, DRZ9255, NAK, Alpine 7990, etc. Shed some light on the subject at the time. I remember the DRZ9255 fared pretty well. Here is a quote from another post regarding the P9 vs. DRZ9255 based on results from the showdown:
"I noticed a night and day difference (in fact all present did) when we did a comparison.. for simple sonic representation the P9 couldn;t hold a candle to the DRZ."
